January 7, 2015 Agenda

Class Overview

This class is based on the assumption that we have Free Will

Through our questions and explorations about what that means, we'll come to understand better how we may use it - Free Will, that is.

It is my hope that we will all practice this!

In our first class we will get to know one another and take a look at where we are going.

We will start with what it means to be a human being watching this short video of Viktor Frankl.

"If we take man as he is, we make him worse, but if we take him as he should be, we make him capable of becoming what he can be."
                Goethe

We will discuss what we mean by "free will", "ethics" and "science" and talk about how we might "practice."

We will balance this with discussion of popular neurologist and philosopher Sam Harris, who argues against human free will.

Finally, we will look at the French YouTube, "Il y a des gens qui ont du coeur."
